*** *** As someone who really loves all things rainbow, the Rainbow Jumprope from Jupiter’s Child caught my eye the very first time I saw it on Etsy. Jupiter’s Child is my favorite etsy shop and is comprised of three very wonderful, friendly, and multi-talented women with a goal of designing and making goods that are useful, playful, sustainable, and beautiful. I would say they are masters at it.

Their Jumprope is a one of a kind, 100% cotton, 8ft long hand-spliced and hand dyed jumprope in rainbow colors. It has soft, easy to grip handles that are carefully and beautifully knotted and tied off. They are machine washable (yay!), and dyed with non toxic, water-safe dyes. They are super sturdy and so beautiful that you won’t mind if your littles forget to put it away.Jumpropes are a wonderful childhood toy that can be played with many different ways. They are popular in waldorf schools for children to hop, skip, jump, and WIGGLE with, because they help build physical coordination skills that prepare children for the complicated movements involved in writing letters and other fine motor skills. As many of you already know, in our home, we are all about simple, fun, old-fashioned toys. One of our favorites when our Little Berry was a baby was wooden toys and animals; Jupiter’s Child also has some very beautiful wooden creatures in their shop which I cannot wait to order for our Winter Solstice table.
*** Now that our Little Berry is four (and a half!), and a whole lot more active, the jumprope is a perfect and excitingly fun new toy to introduce. When it arrived in the mail, I handed the package to Little Berry to see what sorts of things she would do with it without prompting. Immediately, she tucked it into the back of her pants and ran around with it on as a tail. Then she tied it to her toy dog and used it as a leash. And a bit later, I found her using it like a tightrope and balancing while walking across it (with it lying on the floor). Another young friend came by for a playdate a few afternoons later, and they took turns wiggling it across the floor like a snake, trying to jump over it without it touching them:

I didn’t want to crush all that creative use of the toy, but eventually I demonstrated how to actually jumprope. And jump she did! 
((I really should add this is apparently excellent exercise for mamas& pappas as well as children, and the 8ft rope was a good fit for all of us!)) We did show Little Berry how to hold the handles a bit shorter to match her height.
